We as Americans have an almost unique situation which we don't often realize. We live in a land and a time of abundant food. However, as Americans we often choose abundance over nutrious (quantity vs quality). Due to this, there is a new national epidemic of obesity. Here are 5 tips from Trinity.
1. Most people get too much fat in their diets which can contribute to health problems such as obesity, high blood cholesterol and heart disease. While palm and coconut oils contain no cholesterol, they are high in saturated fat and should be avoided.
2. Successful weight loss requires a realistic, long-term weight management program.
3. Avoid situations that tempt you to overeat. By avoiding certain situations, you can often break the habit of overeating. For example, you might try not to snack while watching TV.
4. When on a weight loss plan, keep track of your progress by keeping a record of what you eat and how often you exercise. This way you can better evaluate your rate of success.
5. Set small goals. By setting large, unreachable goals, a person can become intimidated and never even attempt them, which can lead to discouragement. Small goals are easier to uphold and reach.
I believe the important thing about your diet is that it needs to be flexibility to meet your needs, yet have enough structure to keep your calories within a range that will allow weight loss to occur. One has only to look at the any magazines racks or watch TV to find any number of diets. Remember this, yes, all diets work, however, not all diets work for you; nor are all diets even good for you. What to look for are: 1. Support, is there a support group, at least to get you started. 2. Generally, sound nutrition. If the diet stresses one nutrient, it is not going to provide you with the balance that is necessary to maintain the functions of the body. Ask your friends or relatives what has worked for them, it is easier to diet when you have someone who is supporting you and if they have done it, they will usually be glad to mentor you.
MOON WALK 2008, Journeyin' for Jesus, is FCC's team name. The Moon Walk is an event which takes place over a twelve week period from April 4 until June 27. We will be participating as a team for the Quad Cities with Peoria and Champaign-Urbana as our rivals. The first community to walk 954,800 miles (roughly equivalent to two trips to the moon), will win the competition. The more walkers the sooner we will get there. Each participant is asked to sign a Moon Walk 2008 Participant registration form. This forms and more information can be found on the web site, www.qchealthinitiative.org or you may get the forms in the Library at the church. There is one form to register the other is for you to help you tally your miles. So leave one in my box and take the other with you. The Moon Walk has a theme song, written by one of the organizer. You can down load it from the site.
Each Thursday Morning participants will email me at Ksuess@netexpress.net with their miles (just put miles in the subject line) for that week. I will keep track of the teams totals and send them on to the Mission Control. You do not have to do the exercise in the Quad Cities, so if you are going on a walking tour of where-ever, just email me your miles each week. You can use many of the exercises that you normally might participate in during this time. There is a conversion table that is included on the form. There may be special prizes for those of you who walk 250 miles or more and Will be prizes for those who reach over a Thousand Miles. You may use a Pedometer, but this is not necessary. You can estimate or use your cars odometer. Or use another method of your choice. Putting a pedometer on in the morning and reading it at night might be easiest. Check the bulletin board or the web site for a Guide to Pedometers. Weekly a team from the QCA will win a prize for the most miles. Also, I have Prize for the first 14 Participants to register. Come join the fun! And Let's Get Journeyin'!
