CONTINUING THOUGHTS
When I think of being a steward, I think of sharing the favors God has entrusted to me. I think of the “Golden Rule.” I think of the fact that we are called to do good things for God and for God's community. Sometimes, I think of the Good Samaritan. Here was a traveler who recognized that he was a part of God's community; here was a man who answered the call to care for and about everyone--not just those who were close. The Samaritan sacrificed time, effort, and money to help a wounded traveler on the roadside. Why? Because
he remembered that those resources were granted to him by God.......for the purpose of doing good.
All of us here at First Congregational Church are part of a community--a community that's in relationship within an even greater, worldwide community. And while God wants us to care for ourselves, God also calls us to care and sacrifice for those communities. In this stewardship year, may we let our efforts be seen so that we can see the efforts of others. May we gather together in our sanctuary with faith, pride, and thanksgiving for all we have given. May we listen and rejoice when God exclaims with pride, “Good for you!”
Wishing God’s grace,
