Next Steps
You are Welcome at First Congregational Church
We hope you will join us for a worship service and see what
we are about. We are a church that blends the best from tradition with a contemporary
outlook that speaks to the lives we live. You will see this when you walk into
our sanctuary. The extraordinary beauty of our sanctuary and its magnificent
stained glass windows places worshippers in a spirit of worship. Our welcoming
congregation and the uplifting music offer connection to each other and to
Christ.
Both of our Sunday morning worship services are “blended”
which is to say that we have traditional elements of worship (for example many
of the familiar hymns of faith) and contemporary elements of worship (for
example music from around the world, a relevant conversational sermon). Our
Saturday evening worship is informal in our fellowship hall on the lower level.
We worship together in a circle and everyone is encouraged to come casually
dressed.

Step 2 – Get Directions
We are centrally located in the Quad Cities and easy to find
as we are just 1 block east of I-74 at 2201 7th Avenue in Moline, IL. It is easiest to enter our large parking area by turning into the lot ½ block from
I-74. Approach the church slowly, as the turn is easy to miss. (Click here for a detailed map.)
Step 3 – If You Have Children
We are a child friendly church and believe children benefit
from participation in worship. For that reason we have scheduled our Sunday
School hour between worship services on Sunday morning. Younger children are
encouraged to stay for the first part of worship until after the children’s
sermon (the Early Word). Younger children are escorted to the nursery after the
children’s sermon or if their parents wish they may return to their seats. Of
course, you are welcome to also go with the children to the nursery to help
your child feel comfortable.
If you have an infant or prefer for your children to go to
the nursery before the beginning of worship, it is located on the lower level
on the Sunday School wing. Our nursery is fully staffed and has childcare
workers who are 18 years old or older and have safety and childcare training
and have been carefully screened. (Click here for a map.)
Nursery is provided through our Sunday morning church times
and is provided for Saturday evenings with advanced notice (309-762-0787).
Step 4 – During the Service
You will be greeted at the door and offered a bulletin. In
the bulletin you will find a card for you to fill out and place in the offering
plate when it is passed later in the service. We do this so we can properly
thank you for being with us and your information is not shared. You are also
invited to make prayer request if you wish on the back of the card. We ask our
guests not to feel they need to make an offering – your presence is your gift
to us.
Step 5 – Fellowship
You are invited to join us for the fellowship hour between
our two Sunday worship services. We have several members who we call
Ambassadors (they also greet at the door) who are ready to answer any questions
you have about our church and to introduce you to others during the fellowship
time.
Step 6 – Christian Education
You are also welcome to go to one of the Sunday School
classes for adults and, if you have children, to take them to their Sunday
School class. Sunday School classes begin at 9:30. Children and adult classes
are on the lower level and the youth meet upstairs just south of the sanctuary
(above the church offices).
